Position Overview:

This position is available to work from home within the Sutter Health footprint in Northern California.

Has system wide responsibility for the Clinical Engineering function, including the management of both acute and non-acute critical and non-critical medical device oversight. Primary responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for the clinical engineering function and implementing long term strategies necessary to operate, maintain, and plan for Sutter Health medical device resources in a "best in class" manner. Responsible for the development and implementation of a routine capital planning process to fund routine and strategic medical device replacement, upgrades, and new devices. Responsible for managing the support of all medical equipment to ensure a safe and effective environment for our patients and that the needed technology resources are available for our caregivers. Responsible for ensuring compliance with the requirements of all regulatory bodies regarding the support and use of medical technology at Sutter Health. Oversees the enterprise medical equipment asset disposition process to ensure optimal use of resources and effective management of PHI. Provides a strategic perspective in support of the implementation of medical technology across Sutter Health. Has budgetary responsibility for all costs associated with supporting medical equipment at Sutter Health. Responsible for the development and implementation of clinical engineering, medical device security standards including procedure manuals and best practice guidelines. Other primary responsibilities include the development and oversight of facility, operating unit, and system staffing plans within clinical engineering to ensure the most operationally efficient outcomes. Has accountability for other critical clinical engineering programs that include equipment sourcing, medical device cyber security, and key outsourcing strategies.

EDUCATION:

Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

Bachelor's: Clinical Engineering or related field

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

18 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A demonstrated abroad understanding of OSHA, OSHPD, EPA, State and Federal Regulations, as well as TJC, as they relate both to the hospital environment and the medical device industry is required.
  • Background in electrical engineering, statistics, chemistry, physiology, and physics is highly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of and the ability to communicate effectively on issues related to medical technology and human physiology and clearly explain / explore the implications of all the regulations and requirements set forth in Title 22, TJC and other regulatory agencies as they relate to service delivery and patient care.
  • Demonstrates management proficiency and knowledge to effectively plan and coordinate services consistent with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Understanding of general hospital operations and workflows, and how operational process/workflow impacts other department operations.
  • Knowledge of emerging treads and regulatory changes, and how it impacts operations.
  • Business acumen, demonstrating ability to establish goals and standards to meet long and short- term objectives and make sound business decisions.
  • Demonstrates credible leadership presence with the ability to respond to questions with logic, clarity, calmness, and authority; and the ability to engage others.
  • Ability to build and establish effective working relationships with employees, peers, and leaders.
  • Demonstrates understanding of financial planning and budgeting.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with changing business priorities.
  • Demonstrates ability to work/interact with a diverse population while respecting cultural and linguistic differences and fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and is adaptable to change and is able to inspire others to welcome change.
  • Certificate in Clinical Engineering or registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California

Pay Range is $88.63 to $141.82 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
