Shaping the Future of Health Care

Sutter Health has a long and successful history of training laboratory professionals. Our laboratories are approved by the State of California for two specialty license programs in Transfusion Medicine and Microbiology.

These programs will prepare you for California licensure as a Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist or Clinical Microbiology Scientist – a highly qualified, specialist lab professional, in a time where there is great need. Join our knowledgeable and passionate team at Sutter Health where you can develop your career to meet your professional goals.

Program Highlights

  • Training in state of the art laboratories

  • 1:1 mentoring with experienced lab professionals

  • Hands-on learning opportunities and didactic lectures

  • Preparation for CA State licensure

Program Overview

Our one-year training programs emphasize bench work and practical applications of laboratory medicine. These internships are paid full time opportunities which include generous medical benefits. Students will be expected to participate in didactic lectures through the year. Most time will be spent training in the assigned laboratory location; however, students may be expected to travel to alternate locations on occasion. Erica

“We aren’t training our externs to pass an exam or run an instrument. We are a team helping develop the highest caliber lab professionals that we want as colleagues, by our side taking care of patients. The fact that we have a 100% retention rate at our Sacramento campus, and one third of the lab management team are former students, demonstrate that commitment to long term professional development.”
