Position Overview:

Provides care to patients, ages adolescent through geriatric, receiving radiation therapy treatments. Familiar with the physical and geometric characteristics of radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly used, with the training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations under the directions of Oncologist and/or Medical Physicist.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:


DOSIMETRY TREATMENT PLANNING

  • Provides treatment planning prescribed by Radiation Oncologist.
  • Performs dosimetry calculations.
  • Verifies patient treatment records and dose delivery.
  • Creates isodose plan.
  • Resonance Image (MRI) scans—building computer model of the patient’s anatomy and Tumor/Target volume based on the CT/MRI images.Tomography(CT)/MagneticCreates reconstruction of patient images form Computerized


RADIATION THERAPY

  • Utilizes proper radiation safety practices while working with radiation-producing equipment to ensure optimal results with minimum radiation exposure.
  • Follow guidelines set forth by safety committee found in the policy & procedure manual for the department.
  • Coordinates, when needed, and assists with treatment simulations and tumor localizations including fabrication of immobilization and other treatment assistance devices and computed tomography for radiation therapy treatment planning.



TEAMWORK

  • Performs quality assurance, testing and documentation according to department standards.
  • Provides input on treatment plan data and inputs into database.
  • Provides clinical consultation to radiation therapists and physicians on issues pertinent to dosimetry and assists the therapists in the implementation of the treatment plan (correct use of immobilization devices, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment parameters) as needed.



COMMUNICATION

  • Provides effective verbal and written communication to ensure optimal service.
  • Maintains positive communication and relations skills with all contracts, including, but not limited to, co-workers, other hospital departments, physicians, physicians' office staff, and all visitors and callers.
  • Demonstrates ability to initiate, sustain and conclude discussions in a respectful and professional way utilizing clear verbal/non-verbal communication and listening/hearing skills.



DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintains Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) certification.
  • Requirement is updated to maintain compliance with MDCB certification minimum requirements.
  • Participates in continuing education within and away from the hospital environment.
  • Keeps abreast of current procedures, techniques, applications and equipment to provide quality patient care and maintain high departmental proficiency standards.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's: Bachelor of Science in Physics related field
  • OR Other: Graduate of medical Dosimetry program (JRCERT)


TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years recent relevant experience


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrate an understanding in the area of cancer, radiation biology, radiation therapy techniques, radiation oncology physics, equipment technology, radiation safety and protection, anatomy, mathematics, and the psychosocial aspects of cancer.
  • Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to derive computerized treatment plans and communicate these aspects to the radiation oncologist for plan approval, and to the radiation therapist for plan implementation.
  • Must have the ability to interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
  • Must possess mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and be able to visualize objects in three-dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.

Pay Range is $60.85 to $85.19 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
