Is responsible for providing genetic counseling to patients referred to the program who may be at risk for a hereditary condition. Counsels patients referred to the program on all genetic testing related matters, including risk assessment, overview of genetic testing, test results and implications, and suggested follow-up.Job Description:

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provides genetic counseling in specified areas of clinical genetics.
- Provides counseling to patient and family members by providing information, education and/or reassurance.
- Interprets laboratory results and communicates findings to patients and/or physicians.
- Discusses testing options and the associated risks, benefits and limitations with patients and families to assist them in making informed decisions.
- Determines or coordinates treatment plans by requesting laboratory services, reviewing genetics or counseling literature, and considering histories or diagnostic data.
EDUCATION:
- Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
- Master's: Genetic Counseling
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
- 2 years recent relevant experience.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
- CGC-Certified Genetic Counselor
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Understanding of clinical applications and standards necessary to provide comprehensive, current genetic services and counseling.
- Familiar with input and data retrieval on computer database.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, good writing ability.
- Knowledge and experience in the area of teamwork with health professionals.

Pay Range is $49.43 to $74.15 / hourThe salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
