Applying the principles of the nursing process and working within the policies/procedures of the Patient Care Services Department and the Medical Center, the staff nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who, as the patient's primary nurse, is responsible and accountable for:* The overall management of the nursing care provided, assuring competent, compassionate and cost-effective patient care from admission to discharge;
* Assuring the safety, comfort, personal hygiene and protection of patients and performing disease prevention and restorative measures;
* Responding to medical and environmental emergencies

Job Description:
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
Current California Registered Nurse licensure Required. Current BCLS Required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing within the past 5 years, at least one year of which is within area of specialty. FTE status must be .8 or above.
Knowledge: Demonstrates responsibility, accountability, and commitment to quality patient care delivery. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrates effective communication skills. Demonstrates leadership experience/activities, including working knowledge of PDSA Quality Improvement methodology and staff meeting participation. Demonstrates ability to lead and mentor staff in clinical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Able to effectively present ideas. Expected to maintain an advanced level of practice and act as a clinical resource to staff.
Unit Specific Qualifications: Certification in Mental Health-psychiatric Nursing preferred.
Unit Specific Requirements: A minimum of 12 months of recent acute care psychiatric nursing experience. Absence of physical limitations in pre-employment screening that prevent full participation in the care of potentially dangerous and assaultive patients. Those with a history of being diagnosed as chemically dependent or having had a history of treatment for chemical dependency must have a minimum of two years of recovery from substance abuse prior to applying for work in Mental Health Services. In addition, these persons are encouraged to continue in a community program of recovery or counseling while working as a staff member in Mental Health. Anyone with a history of hospitalization at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center inpatient or outpatient programs for a mental illness should have two years of recovery before applying for a job in Mental Health Services.
Unit Specific Competencies: Completion of a hospital approved course on the management of assaultive behavior within three months of employment with an annual recertification required. Completion of a mental health services approved training program on suicide assessment within one month of employment with an annual recertification required.

Pay Range is $81.03 to $109.64 / hourThe salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
