What is recruitment fraud?

• Recruitment fraud is a sophisticated scam where criminals may offer fictitious job opportunities. This type of fraud is normally perpetrated through websites or through unsolicited e-mails claiming to be from the company. These emails request that recipients provide personal information and money to process applications for jobs that do not exist.
• Sutter Health will never ask you for payment to process documents, to refer you to a third party, to process applications or visas, or otherwise ask you for money as part of the recruitment process. You should never send payments to anyone suggesting they can secure employment with Sutter Health. If you suspect you have received a fraudulent offer, please get in touch with local authorities.

How to identify recruitment fraud?

• Any communication from non-Sutter Health sources relating to recruitment should be considered suspicious and handled cautiously.
• Authentic communications with Sutter Health Human Resources will always come from “@sutterhealth.org” email address.
• Fraudsters may also claim they’ll  pay a large percentage of the fees requested and ask the candidate to pay the remaining amount. 
• Most fraud attempts will reflect a huge sense of urgency.

What should you do if you receive suspicious email? 

Do:

• Set aside the fraudulent message for further investigation.
• If you suspect you've received a fraudulent job offer, please get in touch with local authorities.

Don't:

• Engage with the original sender.
