Laboratory Information System (LIS) Coordinator (Work From Home)

Position Overview:
This position works from home, but must reside within the Sutter Health Valley Area geographical footprint to provide local on-site support to Laboratory locations as needed. The LIS Coordinator provides coordination of the overall operational performance of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to support Clinical Lab operations for all Sutter Health Sacramento Valley Operating Unit Clinical Laboratories.
The LIS Coordinator performs all aspects of this position within College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission (JCAHO) standards for performance. The LIS Coordinator utilizes the CLSI and Sutter Health Laboratory Application standards for integrating LIS functionality throughout the Path of Workflow - from Order Entry through Post-Analytic processes.
The LIS Coordinator organizes and documents records of computer design, validation testing, change requests, report formats, calculations, and other functional reviews on an ongoing basis. The LIS Coordinator collaborates with SHSSR IT and Sutter Health LIS Application and network teams to perform integrated, planned approach to all activities.  The LIS Coordinator coordinates laboratory specific activities to support development and monitoring of interfaces to applications performing Admission/Discharge/Transfer, Billing, Order Entry, and Results Reporting; as well as instrument and other connectivity solutions.  The LIS Coordinator provides input for the development and maintenance of LIS procedures, training documents, LIS operational policies for staff use and system database and site parameter quality assurance.  Designs and maintains clinical, technical, statistical, and financial batch reporting for the all affiliate Laboratory Managers and other SHSSR Departments, staff and support services; as well as external agencies.  Provides training and technical support to SHSSR affiliate laboratory staff performing LIS and interfaced system application activities.
Coordinates with vendors and Sutter Health IT to develop technical improvements designed to improve productivity and the quality of patient care.  Coordinates the data structure of related systems to provide an optimal outcome for data extraction and analysis. 

B.S. degree in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences or related field.  Clinical Laboratory Scientist licensure in the State of California is preferred.  Evidence of continuing education in management training and information technology is highly desirable.
A minimum of two years' successful experience as a Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator in a highly productive, diverse laboratory operations is highly desired.  Experience in developing and writing laboratory procedures is required.  Experience with the Sunquest Lab Information System; database development and reports; and Crystal report writing is preferred.  Team leadership skills in implementation of various lab information systems desired.

Skills and Knowledge:     

Extensive knowledge of Laboratory operations in acute and non-acute outpatient setting is required.  Knowledge of client server, LAN and WAN configurations is required.  Data base structure knowledge for successful standards and data extraction.  Extensive knowledge in the relationships between data standards and implications of up and down stream systems and devices.  Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements to ensure systems are meeting those needs as appropriate.  Knowledge of technical advancements, labor saving procedures, and other computerized laboratory information systems is required. An ability to prioritize multiple demands and projects is required. 

Must have demonstrated ability in project planning, and facilitation. Proven ability to plan and organize diverse activities and processes simultaneously. Communication skills, oral and written, are required. Proven implementation and support of Laboratory Information systems is required in order to coordinate effective system integration that meet service needs.. An excellent background and ability to form strong relations with technical peers is required. An ability to deal with complex situations with a large variation of technical/clinical view is required. Flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and innovation are required. Goal oriented, able to work independently with a high degree of initiative. An ability to implement projects across multiple sites and shifts is an integral part of the work responsibilities.
