Position Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides leadership and clinical expertise within the interdisciplinary team in the management of complex patient issues and partners with leadership in the clinical area to develop, implement, and evaluate the delivery of high quality nursing care in a specialized area. The CNS works collaboratively with physician leadership, department directors, education and clinical staff to integrate best practice care throughout the organization. This position has accountability for planning, implementing, and evaluating assigned programs in partnership with the medical director chair and interdisciplinary team at MPHS. The CNS will advance nursing care quality throughout assigned departments by ensuring adherence to evidenced-based practice recommendations and through professional development. The CNS provides consultation to clinical team members, provides direct education and consultation to patients and families, promotes a learning and safe environment using strategies to positively influence patient care practices and enhance outcomes. Also, develops relationships with other Sutter Health entities and external specialty programs to ensure alignment with evidenced-based practice.

Under direction of the Department Director, the CNS supports patient –centered clinical excellence and executes team actions in partnership with MPHS clinical team.

Clinical Practice, direct care and consultation: Provides leadership for creating collaborative, evidenced-based plans of care that meet patient/family needs and improve outcomes. Advocates for shared decision-making among patient and clinical team members to support patient-centered approach to care. Provides clinical consultation on complex patient/family cases in specialty. Direct, develop, mentor clinical staff in delivery of care excellence in specialty. Serves as consultant to nursing staff through clinical patient rounds and interdisciplinary plan of care rounds to assess and ensure patient-centered care.

A MSN, RN License and proficiency in clinical skills of specialty area are required.
3-5 years related experience in an acute care setting is required.
Experience as a CNS or RNP in an acute care setting, experience within the specialty area and clinical simulation instruction are desired.
NACNS National CNS competencies, lean principles, professional development experience and familiarity and Project Management are desired.
Familiarity with electronic records and charting systems including EPIC, education materials development and clinical simulation debriefing and proficiency in spreadsheets, email and navigating health system style programs are desired.
