Position Overview:

The Orientation/Skills Lab Facilitator is responsible for mentoring RNs/LVNs/NA during the orientation process, ensuring a smooth transition to their clinical environment at SAFH.  In this role, the Orientation/Skills Lab Facilitator is accountable for scheduling/arranging completion of the 2-3 day hospital orientation, assessing the education needs of the orientee, developing a plan of action and coordinating resources [preceptor, manager, and skills lab] to implement the plan. Based on patterns of education needs the position will collaborate with the Education Department Manager, for the planning and implementing annual skills/training review.  Included in this position is the responsibility to coordinate with SHSSR  in partnering with Schools of Nursing to orient instructors/students prior to scheduled clinical rotation. The position demands superior customer service in the assessment / investigation of needs with staff, preceptors, and clinical managers. The position calls for a high degree of initiative and judgment in accessing and implementing resources to meet the identified education needs. Assures effective adherence to budget parameters.  Models professional standards of practice for healthcare provider.


·         Education:
BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent combination of experience and education required.  MSN Preferred.
Minimum 3 years RN experience in an acute care facility. 
Current RN license to practice professional nursing in the State of California.
·         Experience:
Documented recent experience in a leadership role is required. 
Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication is required. 
Demonstrated ability accessing clinical resources to meet clinical needs of customers. 
Demonstrated ability to positively handle public contacts and effectively maintain workflow systems with rapidly changing priorities.
·         Knowledge:
            Knowledge of presentation, adult learning and teaching techniques
            Knowledge of communication styles
Knowledge of effective workflow systems and customer service principles required
Current BLS-HCP (Basic Life Support-Healthcare Provider) from American Heart Association or Greater Sacramento Region
·         Special Skills/Equipment:
A genuine commitment to the nursing profession.
Interest in nurturing new nurses and students.
Effective and positive public relations, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to organize/prioritize, work independently, be detail oriented, complete job requirements with
high degree of accuracy, and handle multiple projects with competing priorities.
Effective use of time, equipment and materials and the ability to problem solve.
