The Surgery Technician assists in preparing for GI procedures including scope reprocessing, preparing for and assisting in wound care procedures and occasional surgical procedures, by performing routine and delegated duties according to standards and policies of the department and hospital to assure quality patient care. Must be available for surgery call within 30 minutes of the hospital.
Anticipates and determines the needs of the gastroenterologist and nursing in a consistent manner to achieve quality patient care.
Assists in preparing room for the next patient. This includes identifying and providing correct equipment,
instrumentation, and supplies.
Collaborates and assists in the care, maintenance and use of supplies and equipment in a cost effective
manner. This may include not opening
sterile supplies unnecessarily, offering less expensive materials when appropriate, identifying wasteful
practices and suggesting alternative practices.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of a variety of GI and surgical instruments; reports all malfunctioning instruments
and equipment to manager or designee, and/ or removes from service.
Manages the sterile field and assists physicians in the performance of surgical procedures and endoscopies.
Observes for breaks in the sterile technique; protects sterile field from contamination.
Obtains the appropriate sterile packs, instruments and other necessary supplies needed for surgical
