Position Overview:


The SMCS staffing pool is designed to support our various Med/Surg/Tele inpatient units with day-to-day staffing needs. The RN in this area would enjoy a variety of experiences practicing in our various med/surg/tele inpatient units. The assignments would be day to day and at either Sutter General Hospital Sutter Memorial Hospital. We are looking for RNs who have experience in medical/surgical inpatient nursing and enjoy a variety of patient care populations to care for in their nursing practice. We will train to specialty needs such as telemetry or neuro assessment as needed.

The  RN  has primary accountability for patient outcomes.  As leader of the patient care team, the RN delegates, supervises and participates in patient care delivery.  The RN coordinates care across all disciples, in collaboration with medical staff. The RN will function within the full scope of licensure, implement the nursing process to include the following: to assess patient and family needs; develop a plan of care based on assessment; coordinate and direct patient care in implementation of the plan of care; and, review and evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care. The RN ensures the physiological, psychosocial, safety, learning, rehabilitative, spiritual, cultural and self-care needs of patients and their families are addressed. The RN will function in the charge nurse role as assigned per unit.

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program
  • BS preferred

  • Current California RN license or interim permit
  • Must have BLS -Health Care Provider

  • Acute care experience preferred
  • Experience in area of clinical specialty preferred
  • All Areas: Knowledge of nursing process in the assessment of physical and psychological needs of patients and their significant others.
  • All Areas:  Demonstrate basic nursing skills
  • All Areas:  Aware of adult learning principles in providing teaching of patients and their significant others.
  • All Areas:  Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred in specialty areas.


Independently practices and prioritizes multiple demands in an ever-changing environment. Good

interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) and teamwork skills are required
