Novato Community Hospital is a 47-bed acute-care hospital located approximately 30 miles north of San Francisco. It is a part of the Sutter Health network of doctors, not-for-profit hospitals and other health care service providers sharing resources and expertise to advanced health care quality and access in the more than 100 Northern California cities and communities.
The Pharmacy Technician is a highly trained person with specialized skills who functions to provide timely preparation and distribution of medications and intravenous solutions within the hospital, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, for subsequent administration to the patient. The incumbent performs other duties as required.
High school diploma or equivalent
College courses including chemistry, physiology and algebra desired
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of California by the Board of Pharmacy
Certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) provider
Prior experience in an operational pharmacy
Requires knowledge of medical terminology; pharmaceutical, generic and trade names; pharmaceutical calculations; and laws and regulations relating to the practice of pharmacy
Required to have the following skills: demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer operation skills; proper handling and disposal of potentially hazardous chemicals; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Prefer experience in performance of sterile parenteral procedures using proper aseptic technique, including use of vertical and horizontal airflow hoods.
