Nurse Assistant, Surgery (Per diem-Days/Evenings)

Position Overview:
The Nurse Assistant provides direct patient care and works as a member of the patient care team, under the work direction of a licensed nurse.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics are essential. Certification as a nurse assistant is preferred. CNA or equivalent experience required. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family and staff. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or prior to completion of probationary period. Upon completion of orientation, the Nurse Assistant must be able to: Demonstrate competency with performing 12 lead EKGs. Demonstrate competency of approved bedside testing. Demonstrate competency with patient lifting, transportation equipment and body mechanics. Demonstrate ability to measure and record vital signs, weight and intake and output. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Demonstrate competency with dietary activities. Demonstrate basic computer skills. Unit specific: Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy.
