Manager Nursing ICU Full Time Day Shift

Position Overview:

Manages the 24-hour operation of designated unit(s) in an efficient and cost effective manner. Assures the provision of quality patient care through compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies, and efficient management of clinical and financial resources. Applies management and clinical expertise, education, research, and consultation to

optimize operational outcomes. Represents designated units in forums, fostering a collaborative approach and focusing on effective, efficient service to patients and community. Assumes accountability for implementation of quality process initiatives

  • Associate's Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's BSN or equivalent experience/education Required
  • Master's MSN Preferred

Licensures and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse - CA RN State Licensure Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support Certification - BLS Required Upon Hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - ACLS Required within 90 days of hire


  • Three years of clinical nursing experience relevant to unit
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a progressively responsible management/leadership
  • position, preferably in a comparable size acute care facility
  • Long-term care experience preferred for Skilled Nursing Facility position
  • General business and budget experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with Hospital and Nursing Information Systems
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and accomplish multiple tasks and meet
  • deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in applying the principles of Performance Improvement and
  • facilitating PI Teams and projects

Department-Specific Experience:

In the ICU, you must have 3-5 years of experience within the last 7 years

Skills and Knowledge:

Strong working knowledge of Title 22, JCAHO, federal and state regulations, and related accreditation standards. Demonstrates proactive attitude and creativity in problem solving. Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to lead and motivate staff. Demonstrates dedication to quality service. Strong verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common and sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information and articulate issues and problems to top management, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills Ability to work with and understands statistical data. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Demonstrated competency in nursing management, hospital operations and human resources.
Proven successful experience with physician relations, marketing, supervision, personnel management, clinical and non-clinical operating budget preparation, project planning and management.
Well–versed in hospital and medical staff organization and structure, must be fluent in medical
Working knowledge of all hospital departments and special knowledge in finance, planning, scheduling and personnel/human resources.
Knowledge of hospital and nursing information system.
Demonstrated knowledge of principles and concepts of Performance Improvement, data analysis and presentation and team facilitation.
Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written, especially in areas of negotiation and conflict
Self-directed and innovative.
Ability to work collaboratively with hospital staff, physicians, and outside agencies.
Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of word-processing (Microsoft Word) , presentation &
spreadsheet software (Excel), database (Access) and displaying data graphically.
Experience with Microsoft Office is required.
Must possess effective problem solving skills and ability to concentrate on multiple and varied tasks.
Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision and effectively establish work priorities while receiving work from more than one person.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
Conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills in a complex environment.
Tact, diplomacy and ability to work with individuals in all levels of the hospital and medical staff
Excellent planning and preparation skills, leadership and team skills that enable working cooperatively with diverse groups of individuals.
